With the long lines at every food truck, it took them almost half an hour of standing around to finally get their food. They ate quickly once they had made their way out of the crowd and had found a place to sit in the center of the square. The food raised her blood sugar levels back to normal, giving Kate a boost in energy and excitement.
“I want to go look at all the merch booths,” Kate said, trying to suggest she wanted to do so immediately.
“To buy things?” Yelena asked as if that were Kate’s only reason.
Kate shrugged as she stood up. “Just looking around is fun too, kinda like window shopping. But I definitely plan on buying something. I’ll know it when I see it.”

i work at an infant daycare and one of our babies right now is notorious for attacking the others. like she'll lock onto a target from the other side of the classroom and speed crawl over to them while breathing really heavily and then when she gets near them she'll either pull them over by their onesies, pull their hair, smack them, or hit them with toys. if you move her away from her victim she'll just chase them down again so we've started implementing "baby jail" where we stick her in a jumper whenever she attacks her classmates. we have a couple of babies now that will straight up start wailing if she gets near them because she's smacked them around so many times. also this isn't entirely relevant to the original post but we call her typhoid mary because her mom keeps bringing her in when she's sick, hence this message i sent to my coworkers a while back

thinking abt how in the days of incredibly strict and gatekept access to gender affirming care, just mere decades ago, trans and nonbinary ppl who were afab were just literally not allowed to transition. the reason our history is seen as not as extensive or influential as trans femme history is bc we were quite literally not allowed to exist.
I also always think about the relatively recent ability for women/persons afab to be financially/socially independent. Obviously still a problem as well, can't remember where I read it now and but there was an article I think (?) about ftms in India which had a quote like 'you can't be a transsexual if you're not allowed to leave the house on your own'. Same with lesbians too... gay men have historically had more laws against them for sure, but you don't need laws to stop you when it's literally not possible to live alone/together as a woman/person afab.
